Job Description:


The role of the Division Dean is to serve as the academic leader and manager for the division in working to fulfill Massasoit's mission and reach the goals of the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education's Equity Agenda.

Responsibilities and Duties:

The duties of the Division Dean of Humanities and Communication Arts include:

FACULTY AND STUDENTS
  1. Adhere to all administration guidelines and deadlines of the Collective Bargaining Agreements for full-time and part-time staff.
  2. Schedule and staff all day, evening, weekend, online, hybrid and video conference classes and computer classrooms in the Division.
  3. Work with the Early College Program to establish and support relationships with local high schools as well as develop and staff classes for training and transfer credits.
  4. Calculate faculty teaching workloads and adjust teaching assignments when necessary.
  5. Recruit, orient, supervise, and evaluate all full-time and adjunct faculty in the Division.
  6. Support and collaborate with faculty on the inclusion of high impact practices.
  7. Support faculty and professional staff in meeting professional development expectations.
  8. Manage day-to-day activities of faculty and students in the Division, including attempting to solve all first level student, faculty, and staff grievances, disciplinary issues, grading issues, waivers and student appeals, and room changes.
  9. Attend networking events to identify and recruit adjunct faculty.
  10. Recommend promotions, tenure, reappointment/non-reappointment, sabbatical leaves, hiring, and personnel action as specified in the Collective Bargaining Agreements.
  11. Participate and lead faculty in response to statewide initiatives.

CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENTS AND SUPPORT
  1. Encourage and expedite departmental curriculum development within the Division including the creation, revision, implementation, and/or removal of courses.
  2. Develop a formative assessment plan that includes benchmarking at the completion of each semester; develop a plan that addresses issues identified by this assessment. Provide leadership for faculty in designing and implementing yearly student learning outcome assessment activities, as well as the use of enrollment and other data for program improvement.
  3. Analyze and use data effectively to inform course offerings and program development.
  4. Develop and oversee advisory boards for Division programs.
  5. Develop and coordinate appropriate Divisional program accreditations and approvals as needed.
  6. Assist in and support the reviews of academic programs as they occur in the program review process.
  7. Assist department chairs and/or faculty in the creation of certificate program offerings, encourage program revisions where applicable, keep communication lines open within departments for program upgrades.

COLLEGE AND DIVISION ADMINISTRATION
  1. Recruit, orient, supervise, and evaluate all full-time and part-time professional staff and student workers.
  2. Provides leadership, support and supervision of the staff of The Buckley Performing Arts Center and the Massasoit radio and TV stations.
  3. Demonstrate a commitment to the diversity and sustainability efforts of the College.
  4. Collaborate with Division faculty and staff in establishing and implementing the Division's strategic plan.
  5. Provide leadership and direction to faculty and professional staff in the development of initiatives and activities that promote student success and help to meet expected program outcomes, as well as align with Massasoit's mission, vision, and values.
  6. Serve as Cost Center Manager for the Division Dean's budget and associated grants.
  7. Oversee requests for new or upgrades to IT equipment and software as needed.
  8. Hold periodic Division and department chair meetings.
  9. Attend academic department meetings on a regular basis.
  10. Maintain up-to-date email and personnel lists.

CROSS-DIVISION AND EXTERNAL INITIATIVES
  1. Collaborate with the Transfer Services team to establish transfer agreements with baccalaureate schools as well as comply with Mass Transfer programs standards.
  2. Work with the Corporate and Community Education Division to create workshops, certificates, and non-credit courses as appropriate.
  3. Collaborate with personnel of other College divisions to ensure effective program recruiting and project implementation, with particular attention to work with Admissions, Advising, Marketing & Communications, the Massasoit Foundation, and program assessment partners.
  4. Serve on appropriate internal college-wide and external professional committees or taskforce groups.
  5. Seek and/or collaborate with the grant writing team in writing or reviewing grant proposals that will strengthen the Division or the College.
  6. Represent the College in interactions with various community agencies, businesses, and similar groups.
  7. Serve as a collaborative member of the Academic and Student Affairs senior leadership team.
  8. Focus on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.



Requirements:


  • Master's Degree in a related field
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of teaching at the college level
  • Understanding of the community college history, mission, and students
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of college academic administrative experience or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Terminal degree in a related field
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of teaching at the community college level
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of community college academic administrative experience or equivalent

Additional Information:


Position Status: Non-unit Professional, full-time state funded with benefits.

Hours: 37.5 per week

Salary: $104,249 - $135,526 (annually), commensurate with education and experience.

Worksite: Assignments will include all Massasoit sites.
