Educational Foundations and Social Studies Methods

The College of Charleston's Department of Teacher Education seeks an assistant professor for a tenure-track faculty position in Educational Foundations and Social Studies methods instruction (P-12). Requirements include a terminal degree in Educational/Social Foundations, Social Studies Methods, or a closely related field earned by August 16, 2022, with a minimum of three years of successful teaching experience at the P-12 level. Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate foundational courses. The candidate will maintain an active research agenda and participate in departmental, college-wide, and professional service.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with a diverse student population and who can demonstrate an understanding of culturally responsive pedagogy, restorative justice, critical pedagogy, and the social, political, and economic issues present in contemporary P-12 classrooms. Consistent with the College-wide initiative of Race, Equity, and Inclusion, we seek candidates who demonstrate a commitment to instruction that addresses issues of equity, advocacy, belonging, and community engagement.
