Job Summary
Kennesaw State University is accepting applications for a twelve-month, tenured Associate Professor or tenured Professor and Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies in The Norman J. Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences , beginning July 2022.

KSU is a Carnegie-designated doctoral research institution (R2 institution). The Norman J. Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences has experienced rapid growth in student population as well as research. The Associate Dean will serve as a member of the college's leadership team. In collaboration with department chairs and school directors and the Dean, the Associate Dean will implement research enhancement strategies and oversee all RCHSS graduate programs. The Associate Dean will organize trainings and mentoring of faculty research, as needed.

Responsibilities
The Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies advances the research mission of The Norman J. Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences (RCHSS) and provides oversight of graduate programs and initiatives. The Associate Dean will serve as a liaison to the Office of Research and will organize/manage inter-departmental research groups and interests. Working collaboratively with the Office of Research, the Associate Dean manages grants process in the college and maintains relationships with external entities for research and partnership development. The Associate Dean provides leadership, strategic direction, and executive oversight for all matters related to research and graduate affairs.

The Associate Dean will oversee compliance with various regulations by principal investigators and monitor safety procedures in college research, in collaboration with various units and committees (e.g., environmental health and safety (EHS), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), and the Institutional Review Board (IRB)) The Associate Dean will manage research resources including working collaboratively with the Associate Dean of Operations in allocating space for faculty, staff, and graduate student researchers, and funds for graduate research and teaching assistantships. In collaboration with graduate program directors and a program administrator, the Associate Dean will help seek extramural funding to support graduate student education, and will help develop, oversee, and enforce college-wide policies regarding graduate students.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Building a strong, robust, and sustainable infrastructure for research and creative activities;
  • Elevating the college and university's R2 research profile;
  • Building and fostering a culture of sponsored research, including collaboration across the college and university;
  • Ensuring compliance to the administration of research and sponsored programs;
  • Developing mentoring/coaching programs to support faculty and postdoctoral fellows;
  • Working collaboratively with the Office of Research to develop and implement a strategic plan and set of goals for sponsored research for the college and contribute to the university's research mission;
  • Monitoring safety and ethical research procedures in collaboration with various units and committees (e.g., Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and Institutional Review Board (IRB));
  • Working collaboratively with the college leadership, Chairs/Directors, and faculty in the development of new graduate programs and curricular innovation;
  • Working closely with college leadership, Chairs/Directors, and the university Graduate College to monitor and enhance current graduate programs (including GRA & GTA, recruitment, curriculum, and assessment);
  • Oversee graduate academic integrity and student issues (i.e., complaints and appeals);
  • Providing oversight of the college's centers and institutes.

Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D., or its foreign equivalent, and appropriate credentials to be a tenured Associate Professor or Professor in one of the College's academic departments/schools;
  • Served or currently serving as an associate dean, department chair, and/or graduate program director.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Administrative and leadership experience in an academic setting;
  • Demonstrated experience with budget management;
  • Demonstrated graduate teaching;
  • Demonstrated experience with supervision of graduate students and/or staff;
  • Demonstrated record of receipt of extramural grant-funding including federal grant funding;
  • Experience in mentoring and supporting faculty research, creative activities, and career development;
  • Record of leadership and mentorship in research and creative activities;
  • Experience fostering collaborations across departments, colleges, and/or institutions in both graduate education and research and creative activities;
  • Experience working with multi-cultural populations and in promoting inclusive excellence in research policies and practices;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion;
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain harmonious working relationships.
